Flyers end 11 Game Losing Streak!! Hynes and Carroll with Hat Tricks
The Kelly Ford Gander Flyers ended an 11 game losing streak Saturday with a 7-6 victory over the Grand Falls Windsor Cataracts.
The Flyers rode the 4 point effort of Brandon Hynes in the Victory. Hynes had a Hat Trick in the victory while netminder Marc Cheverie stopped 51 of 57 shots.
The Flyers jumped out to a 3-1 first period lead with goals from Mitch Oake, Brandon Hynes and Brandon Nicholas while Colin Circelli replied for the Cats.
Brandon Hynes (2) and Andrew Ryan increased the 2nd period lead to 6-2 with Brandon Bussey scoring the only Cats tally.
In the Third period the Cats replaced their starter Bryan Gillis with backup Jason Stone. Stone lifted the Cats play with a couple of breakaway stops early in the third to help start a furious end to the game. Andrew Brennan and Danny Wicks scored 1 minute apart at the 6 minute point of the Third to make it a 6-4 game. Andre Gill then scored at 12:14 to set up a nail biting finish to the game. With 13 seconds left Wicks appeared to have spoiled the Flyers day with a goal mouth scramble goal to tie the game up at 6-6.
The Flyers Scott Doody scored at the 55 second mark of overtime to end the 11 game losing streak. This goal could prove to be the most important goal of the Flyers season if it propels them towards an excellent finish to the season.
Doody came over to the Flyers in the Corner Brook dispersal draft as a forward but has been pressed into a defence position with the injuries to Josh Day and Ryan Matheson. Doody finished the game with a goal and an assist.
The Flyer's go for a sweep of the weekend series on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. when they host the Cats at the Steele Community Center.

For the 2nd game in a row a Flyer scored a hat trick. Tyler Carroll scored a natural hat trick and added an assist for a 4 point night.
The Flyer also benefited from a fantastic special teams effort with 2 power play goals and 2 short handed markers.
The Flyers jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead with goals from Brandon Hynes and Jordan Escott. Carroll scored the 1st of his goals at the 13:57 mark of the 2nd, his second goal came with just over a minute left in the second period to make the score 4-0.
Colin Circelli hushed the SCC when he scored power play marker to make the score 4-1. Fans were quite nervous that there was going to be a repeat of Saturday Nights game when the Cats came back from 4 goals down in the third period.
Thankfully, Carroll's goal at the 16:58 mark of the Third period put the game out of reach and also put the Flyers on a small 2 game winning streak.
In addition to Carroll's 4 point effort the Flyer were also led by Jordan Escott's 3 point effort and Marc Cheverie 46 save effort.
For the weekend series, Jordin Escott and Brandon Hynes both scored 5 Points while Tyler Carroll scored 4 Points. Marc Cheverie stopped 97 of 104 shots for a spectacular .932 save percentage.
After the weekend play, Brandon Hynes has moved into sole procession of 2nd place in League Scoring with 20 points on 6 goals and 14 assists. Jordan Escott now sits in 4th place with 18 points on 5 goals and 13 assists while Tyler Carroll and Andrew Ryan are tied for 6th place with 16 points. Carroll's Sunday hat trick moved him into 1st place in overall league goal scoring with 9 goals with Andrew Ryan sitting in a tie for second place with 8 goals.
The Flyers are now off for 2 weeks until February 4th when they Play the Clarenville Caribous in a Home and Home series. Saturday Nights game is in Clarenville while Sunday's game is at the Steele Community Center
